Our Pleanary Award Speakers

  • Professor Ara Darzi, Paul Hamlyn Chair of Surgery | Professor the Lord Darzi of Denham
A pioneer in the field, Professor Darzi has led research towards achieving best surgical practice through innovation in surgery and enhancing patient safety and the quality of healthcare. He was knighted for his services in medicine and surgery in 2002. He is a member of Her Majesty's Most Honourable Privy Council since June 2009.
  • Professor Christobel Saunders, Professor of Surgical Oncology, Australia
An expert academic surgeon, cancer researcher and teacher of surgery at the Division of Surgery, Medical School, The University of Western Australia.   Professor Saunders has been involved in strategic planning and management of health cancer services in Australia and has substantially contributed to many clinical aspects of breast cancer research including clinical trials of new treatments, psychosocial, translational and health services research.
  • Professor Sir Norman Williams, Emeritus Professor of Surgery
The past President of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, Professor Sir Wiliams is Professor of Surgery and Director of Innovation at the Academic Surgical Unit of Barts and The London, Queen Mary's School of Medicine and Dentistry and National Centre for Bowel Research and Surgical Innovation.His main clinical interests are sphincter preservation and reconstructive surgery, and his scientific interests are concentrated on GI motility and anorectal physiology.
