British Association of Surgical Oncology Medal for
Excellence
 |
To mark the 50th Anniversary of the founding of the
Association, the BASO Council inaugurates the British Association
of Surgical Oncology Medal for Excellence to recognise the role of
individual surgeons or teams in the advancement of cancer
care.
The BASO Medal for Excellence will be presented to a
professional or a team in recognition of their outstanding
achievements in the field of cancer surgery: excellence in
research, clinical practice, education and innovation.

BASO @ UK Oncology Forum: 16-17 June 2022

BASO~ACS continues to collaborate with
the 2022 UK Oncology Forum.
This year, BASO will deliver a session on 'Pan-Tumour Surgical
Oncology' chaired by Mr Zaed Hamady, BASO President. We hope that
you will join Zaed and the BASO Speaker Team. Meeting
is FREE for all to attend and CME
accredited.

'Global Health Medal' awarded to BASO's 'Director of
Education'

BASO~ACS are delighted and proud that their
Director of Education, Dr Afsana Elanko was awarded the Global
Health Medal for her valued contributions to medical education and
healthcare at the Global Health Awards in London on 5th
October. This is a prestigious prize awarded only once a
decade. The award was given in recognition of the work that Afsana
has done for both undergraduate and postgraduate medical education.
The oration was given by Professor Robert Kirby, President of
BASO~ACS. Other members of the National Council were in
attendance to support her.
Afsana has built and maintained links at the highest
levels with other surgical societies, the surgical Royal Colleges
and the main regulatory body, the General Medical Council. BASO
benefits from Afsana's links as well as her drive and initiative.
The President and National Council of BASO~ACS congratulate Dr
Elanko on this well deserved award.
