BASO Trainees

BASO Trainees formerly known as Surgical Oncology Trainee Association (SOTA) is an association for surgical trainees. The association provides assistance during members' training and represents all branches of cancer surgery in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Benefits of becoming a member of BASO Trainees (SOTA) include;

• Discounted fees to attend the BASO Trainees Meetings, BASO~ACS Scientific Conference and other BASO~ACS events.

• Opportunity to become a member of the BASO Trainees committee.

• Access to the BASO~ACS and the ESSO Educational Portfolios, Fellowships and Awards.

• Affiliate Membership to the ESSO and the EYSAC.

• 50% reduction in Full (consultant) membership Fee for the first two years of the BASO~ACS Full Membership for any trainee member who has completed CCT, provided they have been a BASO Trainees member for atleast two years.

• Affiliate Membership to the ESSO and the EYSAC.

• Claim tax relief on membership subscription.

Membership for Medical Students and Foundation Year Trainees

Our trainees membership is now open to medical students and FY Trainees wishing to pursue surgical training. We support our trainees with their surgical career and help guiding surgical portfolio via our regional representatives.

BASO~The Association For Cancer Surgery is an HMRC approved (List 3) professional body. If you are a UK taxpayer, the fee you pay for your membership may be tax-deductible (eligible for tax relief). We suggest that if you wish to claim tax relief against your professional fees, it would be best to contact your local HMRC office, noting to them that the BASO~ The Association For Cancer Surgery is an approved (List 3) professional body.

A Byelaw has been passed to amend name SOTA with immediate effect as BASO Trainees and to introduce an Annual Subscription for Membership for the Surgical Oncology Trainee Association (SOTA) category of Membership in the amount of £50 per annum with effect from 1 July 2016, click here to view the byelaw
