History of BASO ~ the Association for Cancer SurgeryThe British Association of Surgical Oncology was founded in 1971 to further the philosophy that the management of malignant disease was becoming a multidisciplinary challenge.

The steering committee organised the first scientific meeting in summer 1973 at which Ronald Raven was confirmed as the first President of the Association.

After the James Ewing Society - Society for Surgical Oncology, BASO ~ ACS is the second oldest national surgical oncology association in the world.

 


 

1971 - 1973

Founded in 1971, the British Association of Surgical Oncology (BASO) was established to champion the philosophy that the management of malignant disease required a multidisciplinary approach. Under the guidance of a dedicated steering committee, the Association held its first scientific meeting in 1973, where Ronald Raven was confirmed as its inaugural President.

Today, BASO proudly represents members from across the UK and around the globe. Many are also members of the 12 specialist surgical societies, partner organisation of BASO .
