The Ronald Raven Lifetime Achievement Award was inaugurated in 2013 to mark the Association’s landmark 40th Anniversary Annual Scientific Meeting—a moment of reflection, pride, and renewed commitment to excellence in cancer surgery.

In celebrating this milestone, the President and BASO Council recognised the profound impact that individual surgeons have had—and continue to have—on the advancement of cancer care. To honour those whose dedication, leadership, and innovation have shaped the field, the Association established the Ronald Raven Lifetime Achievement Award.

This distinguished honour celebrates individuals whose exceptional contributions, pioneering spirit, and lifelong service have elevated surgical oncology and inspired generations of clinicians and researchers. The award has been renamed the BASO Raven Lifetime Achievement Award.
