Professor Vaidya is a Professor of Surgery and Oncology and a Consultant Breast Surgeon, specialising in the diagnosis and treatment of breast disease.

He divides his time equally between clinical practice and research. Over the past two decades, his work has focused on advancing the understanding and treatment of breast cancer. He has authored more than 200 original scientific publications and, in 2014, published Fast Facts: Breast Cancer.

Professor Vaidya’s expertise has been widely recognised. He has been featured in Time magazine and Reader’s Digest, and is a regular contributor to the BBC.

Within the NHS, he serves as a Consultant Surgeon in London, working across the Whittington, Royal Free, and University College London Hospitals.

On 11 November 2025, Professor Vaidya was appointed President of BASO. This milestone reflects his longstanding contribution to the organisation, and he is expected to play a key role in shaping its future direction, fostering continued excellence and innovation.
